The Crazies—WOW so well done! Go Tim Olyphant
First..im a big fan of Timothy Olyphant..of deadwood and hitman…he’s always great as a tough guy. He was great in this.
The story line is great..its not super original because there are so many infection/zombie type movies..but the approach was unique..things unfold fast..and the way the plot plays out..its really really well done.
There are a few really good jumps..and not necessarily associated with a zombie..which i liked!

Shutter Island- Not bad, but turn down the dramatic music!
There are opening scenes and others throughout the movie…where extremely LOUD over DRAMATIC music was playing as if something was about to happen..but nothing did. Im a big fan of the right soundtracks to trailers, movies..and specific scenes..and wow it was overtly annoying how many times this dramatic music was not only playing..but at a crazy volume level.
Also there is a firing line scene were a bunch of people are shot..and one of the idiot extras in that scene can clearly be seen looking up and smiling when he was shot down…i mean..how hard is it for an editor to see that? i caught it immediately …those kinds of little things annoy me.
The Wolfman- made me miss American Werewolf in London- so much lost potential
I do think the werewolf transitions were done well..and actually was probably the coolest part of the movie…BUT the sad part was the effects on the creature itself werent so great. Also..they should have made the movie a bit darker…it had a slight "Van Helsing" or "Drag me to Hell" cheese to it…for example..loud noises to try and make you jump unnecessarily..which i HATE
The cast had huge potential..Anthony Hopkins was amazing as always..and so was Benicio del toro and emily blunt…and Hugo Weaving..all great actors..but just not enough real action..not enough foreboding.
Its a worthwhile rental..but no need to run out and see it in theaters
